BACON! -- Bacon Wrapped Cheese Hot Dogs

Tom got all hot and bothered when he learned of my plans with "BACON!" and wanted to join in on the fun. So this now a joint venture between he and I. So with his help we began our artery clogging adventure with these Bacon Dogs!!

While I popped the bacon in the oven Tom grilled Jumbo Franks. Meanwhile, I buttered and toasted the buns for added yummy flavor. Once the dogs were all done on the grill we simply cut them open on the top side and loaded them up with shredded cheddar cheese. Then wrapped a piece of baked bacon around them and placed in bun!

I ended our first bacon rendevous with a questionaire for Turkey Tom.

1. Would you say these met your expectations based on initial pin from Pinterest.
Tom: "100%"

2. On a scale of 1-5 (5 being very difficult) what would you rate the difficulty of this dish?
Tom: "2...and only reason that high is due to mess/grease made by making"

3. What additional ingredient would you add or what is one that you might change?
Tom: "I'd like to try it with brats next time...but also BBQ sauce sounds good."

Below is the actual recipe from Pinterest:

Bacon Wrapped Cheese Hot Dogs
Bacon Wrapped Cheese Hot Dogs
  • 8 hot dogs
  • 1/2 cup shredded cheese
  • 16 slices bacon, pre-cooked
  • 8 hot dog buns, toasted
  1. Preheat oven to 450┬║. Slice each hot dog lengthwise down the middle almost, but not all the way through. Fill the pocket with a little shredded cheese. (I used Shredded Colby Monterey Jack.)
  2. Wrap the hot dog with two slices of thin-sliced, pre-cooked bacon. Secure bacon with toothpicks if necessary. (I used Costco Hormel frozen fully cooked bacon that I thawed in the microwave for about 30 seconds so that it was easier to wrap around the hot dogs.)
  3. Bake approximately 10 minutes until cheese is melted and bacon and hot dog are hot.

  1. Uhmmmm did you forget to invite your family and firends???????? I think maybe a cold beer would go well too.

  2. I agree with mother hen I would've loved a bacon wrapped hot dog....or basically bacon wrapped anything
