What I Wore + DIY: Gold Tipped Heels

pleated poppy

Oh hi there…I'm Val & I like purple. Wait, do you know me? I mean I'm crazily obsessed with purple. Ok ok..we all knew this. Moving on... What I'm also obsessed with is zippers on the ankles of jeans and leggings and gold anything. I've been amping up the gold in my life lately. Necklaces, earrings, bracelets, nail polish, headbands, home accessories, you name it really. So naturally I've been eyeballing shoes like these on pinterest:

And then I remembered that I'm a tight wad nor do I get the opportunity to wear heels very often. Therefore this would be a really poor investment. The solution was obvious. Hello! I'm going to bust out my spray paint! (I also love spray paint. like big time, a lot.)
So to bring this all home, I styled the whole above look around my love for gold, zippers, and this idea to spray paint my shoes!

Now if you are thinking I'm totes crazy and wondering how in the world I went about this spray paint action here is a little roundup:

So the process when down like this:
I picked a pair of heels. These have been well loved. Roughly 7-8 years old. Insane I know, but they were a low to moderate heel height and were great when I stood behind the chair 12 hours a day. They were crazy cheap shoe carnival heels. I NEVER bought good shoes to wear to work because color splatters would stain them. If you look close in the second photo you can even see some color dot stains! So these bad boys were kinda reaching that point that it was time to either refab or throw away. So they got gold tipped!

I taped off really carefully the entire shoe that wasn't being painted including the sole. That would be lame if that was gold too. ;-)
After I spray painted and it dried I then chose to brush clear mod podge over the tips to give a hard finish that so far has not chipped. My first thought was clear spray paint sealer but I feared that would not be strong or thick enough.

The Result:

Am I the only crazy person whose fashion solution is spray paint?!! LOL!! Don't answer that. ;-)

Anywhooooo Happy Hump Day!!
