Pumpkin spice latte, pumpkin pie, pumpkin candles, pumpkin pumpkin pumpkin blah blah blah…..Ok not really my thing. I do highly enjoy real pumpkins but thats about where it ends. I simply don't enjoy the taste/smell of it. My fall scent of choice is Fireside. Woodwick's Fireside candle is my jam. It has been for nearly 7 years. It's one of my fall obsessions….

Oh wait. This candle isn't what I was supposed to be posting about! PHYSC! :-) We added built-in's to our fireplace wall!!! That's what I really meant by fireside!! (I seriously do insanely love that candle though)

Here is how it went down: (these photos of the process are kinda blurry and grainy because I was snapping quick as I was completely hands on through the process. We busted almost all construction out during Jay's nap so we were working fast)

We are beyond thrilled with the results. For now we opted out of lower cabinets. We didn't want to sacrifice the square footage and have to move those chairs forward as well as we honestly don't have a pressing need for that added storage at this time. The beauty of it all is that we can always add in at some point should our feelings change. These two simple shelves allow us to maximize and accentuate our tall ceilings and create much more interest on this wall. I wanted this wall to be a beautiful focal point.

This was our "Fireside" project :-)

We have a few more fun projects happening and DIY's planned so stay tuned for those!
What is your favorite fall scent?

  1. That looks great Val! You are lucky your husband is so handy! I love how you decorated everything!

  2. I love the built-ins! What a great idea!

  3. You know my fussy nose, but Fireside no contest!!! Looks great.

  4. Very cool, I wonder if we could handle this project?? We have a similar set up to all and it could work?? I am intrigued by your Fireside candle as well. Where did you get it? I am a sucker for Pumpkin but I can try a new scent.

  5. I love the built-ins and how you have it decorated!! Looks great! And I am a HUGE fan of WoodWick too but I found that the Target version called "NatureWick" seems to last longer and they have wonderful scents!

  6. best.idea.ever.! You know i'm totally doing this above our TV in the alcove we have!
